Eradicating Malnutrition in Afghanistan
NEI Distributes Firewood and Winter Survival Food Packages to Internally Displaced Refugee Families
Since the Taliban government takeover last August, many Afghan families have fled their rural homes to seek temporary shelter in Kabul. If these vulnerable families do not receive immediate help, roughly 50% may not survive this harsh winter.
NEI has been providing firewood and food packages including protein-rich soybeans, fortified soy flour, rice, and cooking oil to poor families living in refugee camp villages in Kabul. According to the Kabul Department of Rural Rehabilitation, NEI is the only humanitarian group that is providing both firewood and emergency food aid.
Our Impact
Soy Farming
In 2003, NEI introduced soybeans as an ideal protein source to end malnutrition in Afghanistan. To date, we have trained more than 125,000 farmers in 34 provinces. 80% of the farmers trained have made soybean farming their livelihood.
Women
Empowerment and Entrepreneurship
We empower women through skill development and entrepreneurship. We educate, train, and mentor women in poultry farming so that they can become financially self-sufficient.
