Unless food tastes good, nutrition will take a backseat.

No one likes to eat unfamiliar food. That’s why NEI is working with Afghan housewives to create recipes that will get the nation craving soy. NEI is also working with private sector Afghan companies to introduce and promote soy, familiarizing the nation with the little bean that we hope will become a national celebrity.

SPOTLIGHT

  • Since 2005, we began to mix 10% soy flour into Afghanistan’s staple food, creating soy naan
  • In September 2010, we completed a successful test with representatives from the Kabul Baker’s Union, to market soy naan to the public. The response was overwhelming. Due to the protein functionality of soy naan, the bread stays fresh and soft longer making it a hit with Afghan moms.
